Position Description:

The Project Manager, Capital Projects, will oversee the Institute’s capital projects, including ongoing exhibition upgrades outlined in the Master Plan and remediation projects for existing exhibitions. The Project Manager, Capital Projects, will also be responsible for:

  • Document existing exhibition conditions and draft project scopes of work.
  • Review architectural design documents, specifications, and contracts for feasibility and TFI standards.
  • Conduct inspections during construction for conformance to plans.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets; review and approve invoices.
  • Conduct punch lists and ensure receipt of accurate As-Built Drawings.
  • Act as liaison between architects, general contractors, subcontractors, and exhibit vendors (design, production, lighting, A/V, interactive, and media).
  • Relay exhibit design requirements, including electrical, data infrastructure, rigging, paint, flooring, sprinklers, and lighting.
  • Plan and lead construction coordination meetings.
  • Synchronize architecture/GC schedules with exhibit design and installation schedules.
  • Coordinate with AV technicians and IT teams on networking and building-wide control system integration.
  • Collaborate with design, operations, business operations, and marketing teams to minimize public disruption.
  • Manage value engineering processes related to GC scope.
  • Implement strategies to mitigate risks and maintain project schedules.
  • Make periodic inspections of exhibit spaces to review work in progress for conformance to plans and specifications during the GC construction period.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and of the highest quality.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, project management, construction management, or design preferred.
  • 5–7 years of project management experience in construction, industrial design, architecture, or exhibitions.
  • Proven experience with capital projects in museums, cultural institutions, or similar environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe PDF.
  • Experience with Vectorworks, Airtable (or similar project management platforms).
  • Procore experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with early 1900s building architecture is a plus.

Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday
